Microsoft Office Outlook cannot access the specified folder location.

When an Assistant user tried to access the Manager's email, she got the following error.
"Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. The operation failed. An object cannot be found"

The solution provided here is based on the following setup.
  1. Using MS Outlook 2010 for email client.
  2. Using Office 365 online services for email.
  3. Manager is allowing Assistant access to his email, calendar, notes, etc.
Scenario. Manager (user 1) assigning permission to Assistant (user 2) to delegate some tasks e.g. reading/sending emails, calendar scheduling, etc. so the Assistant can read/send on his behalf, manage the calendar to schedule or respond to a meeting request, update contact and other delegation assign to the Assistant.

Your Email Administrator will assist you on how to fix this issue. Here are the options to resolve this problem.

Option 1. Login to Office 365 using the Administrator account.
  • Go to the Office 365 admin center (https://portal.microsoftonline.com), users and groups, use the magnifying glass to search for Manager email account.
  • Once you find your Manager's email account, click the link to view the details.
  • Click on More, click "Edit Exchange properties" wait for it to load the next page.
  • Click the "mailbox delegation" where you have the option to add user to Send AsSend on Behalf, and Full Access. The page provide a brief explanation of what a user can do if added to one of this group permission.
  • For this example, let's use "Full Access" click the (+) sign to add a user.
  • Find/Add a user, then click OK.
  • Click on Save to finish.
You have to wait for 2-10 minutes before you apply this to your user's mailbox. Remember, your mailbox is managed by Microsoft and save to multiple servers in different locations. It will take some time to globally propagate your changes.

Option 2. Using Manager's MS Outlook.
In this case, you don't need the Administrator assistance though you need the permission from the Manager email account.
  • Using Manager's email Outlook profile. Open up MS Office program.
  • Click on File, Info, Account Settings, then click on Delegate Access
  • Click Add user (your Assistant name), then assign Author or Editor permission to access Calendar, Tasks, Inbox, Contacts, and Notes.
  • Click ok to continue.
And in Assistance mailbox profile. Let's add the Manager mailbox.
  • Open up MS Office program.
  • Click on File, Info, Account Settings, then click on Account Settings
  • In Account Settings, Email Account, click ChangeMore Settings
  • In Microsoft Exchange, click Advance, Add a mailbox to open. In our example, add the Manager's mailbox. Click Apply.

After updating you settings,r the Assistant should be able to access her Manager's inbox and/or calendar and the error "Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. The operation failed. An object cannot be found" should be resolved.
